Celebration of Newly Ordained Deacons in Hosanna, Ethiopia
On the 6th of December, Sr. Amarech Lefamo and Sr. Evarlyne Ndeti joined in the Eucharistic celebration of the newly ordained Deacons, Edlam WoldeGebreal and Bruk Mathewos, in the vicariate of Hosanna, Ethiopia. This significant occasion drew a diverse group of attendees, including religious sisters and brothers, priests, Bishop Seyoum Fransua, the parishioners of St. Joseph Cathedral and invited guests.
During his homily, Bishop Seyoum Fransua, the Apostolic Vicar of Hosanna, delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the essence of the deaconate. He reminded the newly ordained deacons that their role is one of service, not a profession driven by payment. The bishop highlighted that the church, established by Christ through the apostles, is grounded in apostolic succession. Through the church's tradition, those called to this apostolate are entrusted with the mission to continue proclaiming the Gospel.
Bishop Seyoum stated, “Deaconate is a service, not a profession for payment, and the church institution given by Christ to the apostles is grounded by apostolic success. Through the church’s tradition, we who are called to this apostolate continue to proclaim the Gospel.”
The ceremony was a beautiful and moving event, leaving everyone present with a sense of blessing and fulfillment. Witnessing the acceptance and ordination of Edlam WoldeGebreal and Bruk Mathewos as deacons of the Vicariate of Hosanna was a memorable moment for all. The day concluded with a shared meal.
As Edlam and Bruk continue their journey towards priesthood, let us keep them in our thoughts and prayers, supporting them in their commitment to serving the church and spreading the Gospel.
