Supporting students beyond class
At the end of every school term, Heart Ministries Uganda organizes a holiday program to mentor students who need to improve their academic performance.
Every term sisters and staff collect feedback from students and instructors to improve the program and provide a better response to theire needs.
Between May 4th and May 22nd, Heart Ministries Uganda hosted the holiday program at the end of the first term of the school year 2026.
24 high school students from Senior 1 to Senior 4 attended the program at Cabrini Center II, in Pagirinya refugee settlement.
The first two weeks focused on mentoring on key subjects, such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and English, to help students improve their understanding and grades, as well as fostering their confidence and collaboration skills through lectures, presentations, group work and tests.
The last week was devoted to their personal development, through life skills training, career guidance, and mental health counselling sessions and , to comply with the new school curriculum, to keep youth engaged and prevent drop out, and to promote their general well-being. Many students in fact, struggle with depression due to the loss of their parents, with a negative impact on their capacity to concentrate and perform well in school.
