Sr. Barbara Staley's Visit to Ethiopian Communities
From January 15th to January 30th, Sr. Barbara Staley, our regional superior, embarked on a significant journey to visit our sisters in Ethiopia. Sr. Barbara’s visit began in Addis Ababa, where she spent time with our sisters at St. Mary community in Addis Ababa. This initial visit set the tone for her travels. Her presence was a source of blessing, inspiration and encouragement to the sisters
Following her visit to Addis, Sr. Barbara traveled to three key locations: Walacha, Dubbo, and Sadama. In each of these communities, she was warmly received by the sisters, who shared their experiences and the challenges they face in their apostolic work. Sr. Barbara’s visit provided an opportunity for mutual learning and understanding, strengthening the ties between the regional leadership and local communities.
A significant highlight of Sr. Barbara’s trip was the meeting with the three communities of Southern Ethiopia. This gathering was a pivotal moment, fostering dialogue and collaboration among the communities. The conversation covered many things including our constitutions.
On the same day as her meeting with the southern communities, Sr. Barbara also met with the Cabrini Lay missionaries (CLMs). This meeting underscored the importance of lay involvement in the missionary work, highlighting the shared commitment to serving others and spreading compassion. The exchange of ideas and experiences was mutually enriching, paving the way for future collaborations.
Sr. Barbara interactions with the sisters and lay missionaries not only reinforced the spirit of community but also renewed and strengthened a collective mission. The journey was a celebration of faith, unity, and the ongoing commitment to serving the people of Ethiopia.
