Joining hands against human trafficking
On March 11th, 2026, Sr. Diane, Sr. Suany, Sr. Aynalem, and the three postulants attended a workshop on human mobility, pastoral care for migrants and refugees, and the prevention of human trafficking.
The workshop, held in Manzini, Eswatini, was organized by Talitha Kum, the International Network of Consecrated Life Against Human Trafficking, in partnership with the Migrants Refugees & Human Trafficking Office of the Southern Africa Catholic Bishops Conference (SACBC).
The workshop, open to women religius and lay collaborators, was facilitated by representatives of the Southern Africa Taitha Kum network, which comprises and human trafficking experts. The day also saw the presence of José Luiz Ponce de León, Bishop of the Diocese of Manzini.
During the workshop, participants were explained what human trafficking is and its progression, and learnt how to identify trafficking cases and alert appropriate authorities. As a group, participants also discussed strategic and pragmatic ways of fighting human trafficking, in synergy with the other members of Talitha Kum network in the region, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Madagascar.
Perticipants were also engaged in reflection on the spirituality of Talitha Kum, “the Spirituality of the Baptised”, as well as in discussion on the structural organisation of the the network in Eswatini.
Each participant was sent to their various communities and outstations to further create awareness, especially for the youth, who most times fall prey to human trafficking due to desperation and lack of basic needs.
The workshop was an important formation and exposure for the MSC community in Eswatini, as it is a part of the Cabrinian Charism.
Through collaboration with Talitha Kum, working hand-in-hand with the diocese, the MSC in Eswatini will continue to live a special part of teh Cabrinian Charism by organising awareness and enlightenment programs, grooming youth ambassadors and compassionately accompanying people who are victims of trafficking.
