Who am I, who we are!

On August 14th, 2025 the collaborators of the Cabrinian mission in Uganda gathered at Holy Family Nursery School in Pagirinya (Dzaipi, Uganda) for a team building workshop.

Uner the theme “Who am I, who we are!”, the event brought together staff working and carrying out the mission of Heart Ministries in different sectors, such as preschool, secondary education, and social projects, and offered them an opportunity to know and interact with each other.

During the day, the facilitator helped us reflect on the importance of our identity, culture, attitudes, and relationships in the workplace. It was important to recognize that we are unique in our own identity, and therefore, we are diverse in our ways of acting and interacting with other cultures.

However, the dynamics of human relationships open our minds and hearts to embrace, respect, coexist, and engage in dialogue with other cultures. When this attitude of openness and respect exists across cultural differences, it has a positive impact on our working relationships and society.

However, building effective relationships requires a range of skills and qualities, as well as putting in the effort to maintain a connection with your colleagues.

Some of the best approaches for building effective working relationships are:

  • Respect is the foundation of any good relationship. Showing respect is one of the best ways to build effective working relationships, no matter your position in the organization/company and the positions of the people around you.

  • You need to be proactive about getting to know your colleagues and seeking opportunities to work together to strengthen your professional relationship. Deliver what you promised. Reliability and trustworthiness are traits that are very desirable in colleagues, so delivering what you promise at work is a great way to build better working relationships.

  • A key aspect of successful working relationships is offering support to one another. We will develop stronger connections with your colleagues if your relationships are built on mutual offers of support.

We remember that we are different, but a mission unites us. The mission of Heart Ministries is to share God’s love with all through the values: Dignity, Integrity, Unity, Courage/Audacity, Passion/Zeal. In fact, all these values unite us as collaborators in the Cabrinian mission.
