Driven to end malaria
April 25th is World Malaria Day. Under this year’s theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must”, the world is called to join hands to contribute to reach a malaria-free future.
St. Mary Hospital in Dubbo, Ethiopia, marked the day with a special campaign featuring different events, including provision of health education, distribution of leaflets and flyers, free screening and treatment services and time for feedback from the participants.
Staff and the community members from Boloso-Sore district, including patients, children, women, caregivers and local residents, gathered at the Hospital waiting area to learn about malaria. They received clear information on what malaria is, its symptoms, prevention methods, and treatment options, through visual materials prepared by the hospital staff.
Attendees were also offered free screening services. Out of 85 people tested, 10 were found positive for malaria and received treatment. Those who recieved the services were very pleased and grateful.
The Hospital and the event were praised for raising awareness and providing valuable health services, with many expressing hope for future campaigns.
