A gift of love on the feast of the Sacred Heart
The Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the most significant feast day for the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC).
This year, Cabrini Ministries Ethiopia (CME) celebrated this feast sharing the love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with the family of Mr. Tesfahun Yoseph by building a new house for them.
Mr. Tesfahun used to live n Dubbo with his wife and their child in an extremely small house, barely enough for the entire family to sleep in.
The walls were cracked and crumbling, and the roof was made of old, worn-out corrugated iron sheets that leaked whenever it rained.
During the rainy season, water poured into the house, soaking their few belongings and making it impossible to stay dry.
The structure was so weak that it seemed it could collapse at any moment. It was not a home; it was a constant struggle for survival.
On May 19, 2026, CME staff gathered at the site where the house would stand. Sr. Berhane Ashebo (MSC), Executive Director, opened the program by welcoming everyone and introducing this special charitable activity. She invited Fr. Demissie Guraro, O.F.M. Cap, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish - Dubbo, to lead the opening prayer and bless the work.
After the prayer, all staff picked up tools and worked side by side. There was no distinction in roles: everyone labored together under the hot sun, sharing laughter and songs. By the end of the day, the house was complete, and the the family could not hold back their tears.
“You have given us more than a roof. You have given us hope. May God bless your ministry and each of you abundantly”.
For the staff, the day was equally meaningful. Many said it was the most fulfilling work they have ever had. It was a reminder that our mission is not only about programs and reports. It is about love in action. It is about showing up for our neighbors, especially the poorest among us. On this Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, we were reminded that the heart of Jesus is a heart that serves. And for one family in Dubbo Village, Wolayta Zone, that heart now has a home.
