Meeting with Young Women in Kenya

Sr. Rosa Sousa, Mary Mutunga, Christine Momanyi and Felister Kioko listening to one of the young women sharing her vocation journey

Recently, Sisters Aynalem Paulos, Evarlyne Ndeti, and Rosa Da Silva Sousa had the pleasure of meeting with nine young Kenyan women who expressed an interest in learning more about the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC). This enlightening gathering took place at the Novitiate in Nairobi, Kenya.

The young women arrived on the 9th and departed on the 12th. The main activities and discussions were scheduled for the 10th and 11th. The sisters engaged the young women in a profound discussion about the meaning of vocation. They shared various vocation stories from the Bible, providing a rich examples and inspirations.

The sisters also opened up about their personal vocation journeys sharing their unique paths and experiences in joining the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This was an opportunity for the young women to see how vocation can manifest in different ways and to understand the personal nature of such a calling.

In addition to personal stories, the sisters shared insights about Mother Cabrini, our foundress. They explained how the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was established and discussed our Charism, which is the spiritual gift or identity that defines our mission and work.

To foster a sense of community and joy, the group enjoyed a bonfire night on Saturday. The young women and sisters danced, sang, and played games around the fire, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere.

The gathering also included a movie night, where they watched a film about Mother Cabrini. This provided a visual and engaging way to learn more about our institute’s inspiring foundress and her impactful life. Through these activities and discussions, the young women left with a deeper understanding of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and perhaps a clearer vision of their own potential vocations.
