Bringing Hope to the Fuga People of Ethiopia

The Fuga people of Ethiopia, residing in the Sadama region, have long faced marginalization within their society. Our mission aims to bring the love of Christ to these communities, serving as a beacon of hope and change. This endeavor has not only been a spiritual journey but also a practical effort to uplift the Fuga people through education and empowerment.

When our sisters arrived in Sadama in 2023, they embarked on a journey to connect with the Fuga community. Their initial visits were crucial in understanding the unique challenges faced by the Fuga people, especially the widespread illiteracy resulting from years of marginalization and isolation.

Recognizing the transformative power of education, our sisters emphasized the importance of learning and knowledge. They shared the good news about education, highlighting its role in opening doors to opportunities and fostering personal and community growth.

In 2024, a significant milestone was achieved when several Fuga children were enrolled in our Kindergarten and St. Anne’s Primary School. This step was not just about numbers; it symbolized a new beginning for the children, offering them a chance to break the cycle of marginalization through learning.

Encouragingly, there has been a noticeable increase in Fuga children's enrollment in both educational institutions this year. This growth reflects a positive shift in the community’s outlook towards education and their trust in our mission. It also underscores the impact of our sisters' dedicated efforts in spreading awareness about the value of education.

Our mission in Sadama is far from complete. We continue to work closely with the Fuga people, focusing not only on education but also on fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every individual feels loved, valued and empowered. As we move forward, our commitment remains unwavering. We are hopeful that through our combined efforts, the Fuga community will continue to thrive and overcome the challenges of the past, embracing a future full of promise and opportunity.
