Reaffirming our commitment to education

As the end of the year is approaching, staff at the Education department of Heart Ministries Uganda assessed achievements and challenges of 2025 and is planning for 2026.

Every year the Education program at Heart Ministries supports high school students with school fees, mentoring and tutoring to help them complete secondary education and lay solid foundations for their future.

Students and their families enrolled in the program commit to collaborate with Heart Ministries in ensuring not only good academic performance, but also responsibility and engagement in all aspects of the education journey.

In 2025, 20 youth were supported, 16 girls, and 4 boys, from both Pagirinya refugee settlement and Dzaipi host community. Particular attention was dedicated to girls, who also received sanitary kits to help them during menstruation, so as to avoid school absenteism and stigma.

This year, Heart Ministries administration has also launched a holiday program to provide extra tutoring in English and STEM subjects during school breaks.

Thanks to the program, students’ grades increased significantly during the year.

Heart Ministries held regular meetings with students and parents to monitor performance and discipline, and to gather feedback and suggestions for improvement.

In order to address the students’ challenges with overcrowded classes and poorly equipped schools, for the academic year 2026, Heart Ministries will refer senior students to school with less population, to improve learning, and set up an IT lab at Cabrini Center to ensure students can access computers and internet connection for research and school projects.
