Commemorating Good Friday In Ethiopia and Eswatini
Good Friday is a significant day for Christians around the world, marking the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his journey toward resurrection. It is a day of reflection, prayer, and community gathering. This year, our sisters participated in the solemn observance of Good Friday by joining their respective parishes for the Stations of the Cross.
Procession of the stations of the cross at St. Philip, Eswatini
The Stations of the Cross is a traditional Christian practice that commemorates the events of Good Friday. It involves a series of 14 images or stations, each depicting a moment from Jesus' path to crucifixion. Participants move from station to station, often with prayers or meditations at each stop, reflecting on the sacrifice and love embodied in the Passion of Christ.
In Dubbo, Ethiopia, our sisters joined the parishioners at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. The community gathered in a spirit of reverence and unity, walking together through the Stations of the Cross. The ceremony was both moving and spiritually enriching, allowing participants to connect deeply with the themes of suffering, redemption, and hope.
Meanwhile, in Eswatini, another group of our sisters participated in the Stations of the Cross at St. Philip Parish. The event was marked by a profound sense of devotion, as community members and our sisters alike reflected on the meaning of Good Friday. The prayers and meditations offered during the procession were a powerful reminder of faith and the journey toward Easter.
