10th Anniversary Celebration of our Holy Spirit Region

On Thursday, May 7th, 2026, our sisters joyfully celebrated the 10th Anniversary of our Holy Spirit Region. The theme for this milestone celebration was Living Fire, symbolizing the passion and commitment that has driven our mission forward over the past decade. This momentous occasion followed closely on the heels of a successful consultation meeting.
The celebration commenced with an opening prayer led by the Novitiate Community. This prayer ceremony included a symbolic act of passing on the candle, representing the continuous sharing and nurturing of our community's fire. Sisters shared heartfelt reflections on what celebrating 10 years of our anniversary meant to them, creating a space of unity and gratitude.
Following the prayer, Sr. Barbara Staley, our regional superior, took the stage to provide a brief history of our mission in Africa and the formation of the Holy Spirit Region. Her insights were both enlightening and inspiring. She also facilitated a session of reflective questions that led to meaningful sharing and discussions among the sisters.
A highlight of the celebration was a special tour of Addis Ababa, enjoyed by all the sisters. Our tour guide, HaileYesus, enriched our understanding of the city’s history and culture. We visited the National Museum of Ethiopia, where we delved into the evolution of human beings. Another fascinating stop was Entoto, where we explored the history of the Orthodox Church and learned about the king's palace and the city's transition to Addis Ababa.
Upon returning to the hotel, we gathered for a beautiful Eucharistic celebration led by Fr. Raymond Manyanga, SJ. His homily was vibrant and reflective, resonating deeply with the theme of our celebration. It was a spiritual highlight that brought everyone together in a spirit of thanksgiving.
The day concluded with a celebratory dinner, a joyful occasion filled with laughter, good food, and the warmth of Sisterhood. It was a fitting end to a day that celebrated not only our past achievements but also the bright future that lies ahead for our Holy Spirit Region.
